The freshest internet infrastructure industry insights—gathered just weeks before CloudFest 2025!
As the #1 internet infrastructure festival in the world, CloudFest brings together over 9,000 technology leaders, builders, and visionaries each year to share their unique experiences and form valuable new partnerships. The CloudFest team has leveraged that collective experience to quantify how the internet infrastructure industry sees this present moment—as well as the near future.
The 2025 CloudFest State of the Cloud survey, conducted by Open Eye, highlights the evolving landscape of cloud computing through insights from more than 600 global professionals.
“I was most surprised to see how many more people have been putting AI to work in their companies,” said Brooke Edge, our research partner at Open Eye Consulting. “We saw a doubling of how many people feel confident, and we saw a drop by half than of people who feel concerned about AI.”
Edge worked overtime to collect and analyze a wide range of responses and concerns regarding the state of play in today’s internet infrastructure marketplace. While it’s not surprising that AI dominated Edge’s conversations with the CloudFest leadership community, there were many other insights that emerged as well.
Survey responses
Here are some anonymized responses from the 2025 State of the Cloud Report: you can quickly see how the issue of data sovereignty has stepped fully into the industry spotlight along with AI and cybersecurity.
- “There’s a business gap in every concern, maybe it gives our company the chance to do something good regarding security and turn it into revenue.”
- “I consider European data sovereignty to be a major competitive advantage over hyperscalers, as it protects customer data from access by U.S. authorities.”
- “If Europe could invest in AI companies.”
- “We need a European wide law for regulating AI solutions.”
- “AI must be made safer instead of driving a global race for the best and smartest AI.”
- “European alternatives to hyperscalers.”
- “Geopolitics shape how data flows, who controls infrastructure, and where we can operate. Restrictions or regulations could directly impact how we store, access, or share content with clients worldwide.”
- “The shifting geopolitical landscape will drive stricter data sovereignty laws, sanctions, and regulatory fragmentation, forcing businesses to adopt multi-cloud and sovereign cloud strategies. Governments may push for national cloud alternatives, while security risks and compliance complexity will require more resilient, regionally distributed architectures. To stay agile, businesses must balance cost, compliance, and provider diversity in their cloud strategy.”
- “The shifting geopolitical landscape will be crucial for the cloud, as regulatory changes, sanctions, and political tensions could disrupt global cloud infrastructure and data flows. Companies may face increased compliance burdens, higher costs, and the need to navigate complex international policies. This could hinder cross-border cloud services and force businesses to localize data, making it more difficult to scale and innovate efficiently.”
