Happy birthday to domains! Forty years ago, on March 15, 1985, the first .com domain was registered when Symbolics, Inc. registered symbolics.com for their computer manufacturing company. In 2009, Symbolics, Inc. decided to sell the domain name to a 34-year-old collector named Aron Meystedt.
To commemorate 40 years of domains, I sat down with Meystedt, who remains the owner of that first registered domain. We spoke about how he got into buying and selling domains, his plans for symbolics.com, the new company he just co-founded, and what he’s looking forward to most in Miami this November.
